Dental crown also known as a dental cap, is a tooth-shaped restoration that covers and encases a damaged or weakened tooth. It acts as a protective shell, restoring the tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance. Dental crowns are made from various materials, including porcelain, metal alloys, or a combination of both, depending on the specific needs of the patient.
The custom-made prosthetic devices are designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, providing strength, durability, and a natural-looking appearance.
Our dentist will perform a comprehensive examination, including a dental X-ray, to evaluate the condition of your tooth and determine if a dental crown is the appropriate treatment option. A personalised treatment plan will be created based on the findings and your individual needs.
To accommodate the dental crown, the affected tooth will be prepared by removing a small amount of its outer structure. This ensures a proper fit for the crown without altering the surrounding teeth.
An impression or digital scan of the prepared tooth and the surrounding teeth will be taken. This impression serves as a blueprint for the dental laboratory to create a custom-designed crown that matches the shape, size, and colour of your natural teeth.
While the final crown is being fabricated, a temporary crown may be placed over the prepared tooth to protect it and maintain proper function and aesthetics.
Once the final crown is ready, typically within a couple of weeks, you need to attend for the placement. Our dentist will remove the temporary crown, check the fit and appearance of the final crown, and make any necessary adjustments. The crown will then be permanently cemented or bonded onto the prepared tooth.
A dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of one or more artificial teeth, known as pontics, which are supported by dental crowns placed on the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. Dental bridges not only fill the gaps left by missing teeth but also prevent surrounding teeth from shifting and maintain the natural alignment of your bite.
Our dentist will evaluate your oral health, assess the condition of the surrounding teeth, and determine if a dental bridge is the appropriate treatment option. The number of missing teeth, the location of the gap, and the health of the supporting teeth will be taken into consideration during the treatment planning stage.
The teeth adjacent to the gap will be prepared by removing a small amount of their outer structure. This creates space for the dental crowns that will support the artificial teeth (pontics) of the bridge.
Like the dental crown procedure, impressions or digital scans of the prepared teeth and the surrounding area will be taken. These impressions will serve as a guide for the dental laboratory to fabricate a custom bridge that fits seamlessly in your mouth.
While the final bridge is being crafted, a temporary bridge may be placed to protect the prepared teeth and maintain proper function and aesthetics.
